Profile
Dr. Sunny Luke is a former distinguished medical scientist, Assistant Director of Genetic Diagnosis, Director of Molecular Pathology, and Professor of Medical Genetics and Medical Biotechnology. He worked with various medical centers and universities in New York, USA. During his 35 years of career in molecular and genetic medicine, he made significant contributions in cancer genomics, prenatal genetic diagnosis, pediatric genetics, developmental disabilities, sexual anomalies, human molecular evolution, stem cell technology, and tissue engineering. Dr. Luke has authored over 80 research publications, including research papers, review articles, technical bulletins, and book chapters. The American Museum of Natural History created an exhibit showing his findings on human evolution, comparing the genomes, genes and chromosomes between humans and higher apes and kept his findings in the “Hall of Human Evolution” since 1993. Dr. Luke's honors and achievements include: recipient of research grants from NCI, NIH, and Maimonides Research Foundation; Research Excellence Awards from the New York Academy of Sciences and Long Island College Hospital- SUNY Health Science Center; memberships through elections in Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society of North America; Association of Clinical Scientists, USA; and Institute of Biology, UK, incorporated by Royal Charter. He also received special mention from the US government several times as a model mentor for producing research talents from elite high schools in New York for the Westinghouse and Intel Science Research Competitions. Sunny Luke has been listed as noteworthy researcher by “Marquis, Who's Who” a directory for outstanding scientists in the world.
He is also the founder and first Chairman of International Institute for Scientific & Academic Collaboration, Inc., (IISAC), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational organization based in New Jersey, USA. IISAC promotes short-term study programs for U.S. universities in India, youth empowerment initiatives for U.S. high school and college students, and faculty exchanges between U.S. and Indian universities. IISAC actively supports the United Nation’s “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” in India. Dr. Luke has published a reference book on Kerala studies, which serves as a textbook in regional studies for visiting students from the USA. This unique book spans 1,400 pages across two volumes, featuring 87 academic chapters. It is used by American professors for their students in faculty-led programs in Kerala, covering topics such as tropical biodiversity, comparative religions, social issues, Kerala culture, history, politics, anthropology, tropical agriculture, and tropical diseases.
After his retirement, Dr. Luke settled down in Kerala, India, where he promotes institutional relations among universities in India, the US, and the UK. In Kerala, he is actively involved in empowering more than 500 children with neurodevelopmental disorders through interventional therapies while promoting research and studies in disabilities. He is in the process of establishing a brain genomics research center in Kerala for the early detection of neurodevelopmental disorders by analysing chromosomes and molecular markers.
